This drive accelerates ionised gasses to high velocities using a magnetic field. Ionised gases can be obtained in several ways either by using electron bombardment to ionise a gas or by passing the output from a fusion core through an electrical field to separate the positive and negative charged particles which are then accelerated, to form a hybrid plasma/ion-drive, while this is not as effective as a pure ion-drive it is a significant improvement of the standard plasma drive reducing the fuel consumption of the plasma drive by almost half while increasing its thrust output.

The last stage of this drive passes ionised gas into a particle accelerator that accelerates the ions close to light speed to provide a significant thrust increase. This is a stable, powerful fuel efficient drive.

There are two types; A hybrid-accelerated plasma/ion-drive used on race capital ships, and Accelerated Ion Drives used by earth ships and possibly Khaak.
