| This drive accelerates ionised gasses to high velocities using a magnetic field. Ionised gases can be obtained in several ways either by using electron bombardment to ionise a gas or by passing the output from a fusion core through an electrical field to separate the positive and negative charged particles which are then accelerated, to form a hybrid plasma/ion-drive, while this is not as effective as a pure ion-drive it is a significant improvement of the standard plasma drive reducing the fuel consumption of the plasma drive by almost half while increasing its thrust output.

| The last stage of this drive passes ionised gas into a particle accelerator that accelerates the ions close to light speed to provide a significant thrust increase. This is a stable, powerful fuel efficient drive.
